Cancer Survivorship Clinics Announced

Project ECHO Nevada, the Nevada Cancer Coalition, and the UNLV School of Medicine are pleased to offer Part 2 of the Cancer Survivorship ECHO series! This six-part Cancer Survivorship series will empower health care practitioners in Nevada to actively engage in their patients' cancer survivorship journey. Sessions will provide education on best practices to address late and long-term effects of cancer and cancer treatments, treatment preparation, and follow-up care. Additionally, participants will have the opportunity to discuss patient cases with experts for feedback and treatment recommendations.

Classes are held on the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of the month - 8:00 - 9:00 a.m.
Cancer survivors are individuals living with and beyond cancer. They become survivors from the time of diagnosis through the remainder of their lives. Today, more than two-thirds of those diagnosed with cancer are told they can expect to live at least five years after diagnosis. According to the American Cancer Society, in Nevada there are currently an estimated 120,200 cancer survivors and in 2019, 14,810 people will be diagnosed with cancer. Our health-care system does not yet consistently support the delivery of coordinated care between primary care and oncology specialists. This series hopes to address survivors' ongoing needs with improved outcomes and quality of life for cancer survivors'.

What Is Project ECHO Nevada?
The purpose of Project ECHO Nevada is to expand the capacity of health professionals to effectively treat common, chronic, and complex health conditions in underserved populations throughout Nevada. Project ECHO is an innovative health care delivery solution pioneered in New Mexico by Dr. Sanjeev Arora and has now been replicated by over 200 sites worldwide. The University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine was early to adopt Project ECHO, with only Washington, and urban Chicago replicating sooner. ECHO is a simple telehealth linkage connecting university-based faculty specialists to primary care providers in rural and under-served areas to extend specialty care to patients with chronic, costly, and complex medical illnesses.
