Colorectal Cancer FIT Test Available at NV Health Centers
02 February, 2021
Colon Cancer is one of the most commonly diagnosed cancers in both men and women and rank among the top 10 causes of cancer incidence in Nevada. Additionally, colorectal cancers have higher rates of a late-stage diagnosis.
With the recent loss of State funding for FIT kits, Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center, a Commission on Cancer Accredited facility, felt that they needed to provide opportunities for colon cancer screening in their community. Sunrise recently partnered with the Nevada Health Centers in Southern Nevada by providing FIT kits to the community. This free screening opportunity will run through March, which is also Colorectal Cancer Awareness month.
The ACS recommends that people at average risk of colorectal cancer start regular screening at age 45. This can be done either with a sensitive test that looks for signs of cancer in a person’s stool (a stool-based test), or with an exam that looks at the colon and rectum (a visual exam).
People who are in good health and with a life expectancy of more than 10 years should continue regular colorectal cancer screening through the age of 75.
