New Transportation Options Available to Northern Nevada Patients
04 April, 2018
Transportation to and from cancer treatments can be a challenge, and for some, getting to treatment can be one of the biggest roadblocks to cancer care. Thanks to a grant from the William N. Pennington Foundation the American Cancer Society in northern Nevada has recently expanded its transportation program to help more cancer patients get to vital treatment appointments.
The American Cancer Society is partnering with a transportation vendor to use as back up to their Road to Recovery program to increase the number of free rides in northern Nevada, making it easier for patients to get to the cancer related treatments they critically need. Counties included in the new transportation option include:
- Carson City
- Churchill
- Douglas
- Elko
- Eureka
- Humboldt
- Lander
- Lyon
- Minderal
- Pershing
- Storey
- Washoe
- White Pine
Patients must be travelling to an appointment for cancer treatment or a follow up after treatment. Other eligibility requirements may apply. For example, a caregiver may need to accompany a patient who cannot walk without help or under the age of 18.
NOTE: Due to Covid-19 some services are not active at this time. Please check the American Cancer Society website to see how these services are affected in your area. |
Rides should be scheduled at least 3 days prior to the appointment and can be requested by calling 1-800-227-2345.
