Summit Speaker Series: Dr. John Ganser
08 August, 2015
The 2015 Nevada Cancer Control Summit brings together expert speakers from throughout Nevada and the nation to discuss the latest topics in cancer control. Our second installment in the Summit Speaker Series is John Ganser, MD, FACS, presenting “New Technologies in Lung Cancer.”
Dr. Ganser is a thoracic surgeon with Western Surgical Group and bariatric surgeon and bariatric medical director at Western Bariatric Institute, both in Reno, Nevada. A native Nevadan, Dr. Ganser completed his undergraduate degree at University of Nevada, Reno then attended medical school at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas. His residency was spent in Portland, Oregon at the Oregon Health Sciences University followed by a fellowship in general thoracic surgery at the Royal College of Surgeons in Birmingham, England. He has additional training in Laparoscopic surgery (Medical College of Virginia) and Minimally Invasive surgical procedures (California Institute of Minimally Invasive Surgery). Dr. Ganser is active in Nevada State Medical Association, Fellow American College of Surgeons, Washoe County Medical Society, Oregon Medical Association, and Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society.
For Dr. Ganser, providing the best possible care to patients means staying on the leading edge of technology and expertise while also keeping the focus on the patient. In a recent report from Saint Mary’s Center for Cancer on new technologies for diagnosis and staging of lung cancer he noted, “We are doing more screening for lung cancer in high-risk individuals, and as a result, we are finding lung cancers that are much smaller and at a much earlier stage. Needle biopsy is difficult and less accurate in smaller lesions, while superDimension is more precise and accurate, as well as less invasive – superDimension provides access to lung lesions that were previously difficult to biopsy at all.”
Join us as Dr. Ganser discusses superDimension technology and more at the 2015 Nevada Cancer Control Summit. Registration is just $125 for both days and includes continuing education credit. Get details and explore the entire agenda here.
