Summit Speaker Series: Oscar B. Goodman, Jr., MD, PhD
07 July, 2016
The 2016 Nevada Cancer Control Summit brings together expert speakers from throughout the region to discuss the latest topics in cancer control. In the months leading up to this year’s Summit, scheduled for September 15 at Springs Preserve in Las Vegas, join us to learn more about our roster of speakers.
The World Cancer Research Fund estimates that about 20% of all cancers diagnosed in the US are related to body fatness, physical inactivity, excess alcohol consumption, and/or poor nutrition, and thus could also be prevented. Being overweight or obese is linked to increased risk of at least six cancers, and is a risk factor in at least seven other cancers. Clearly there’s a lot to discuss in this year’s Summit session on Obesity and Cancer.
Join Oscar B. Goodman, Jr., MD, PhD, as he takes a deep dive into obesity and cancer from a researcher’s perspective. Dr. Goodman is a physician-scientist, serving as both a medical oncologist and clinical researcher at Comprehensive Cancer Centers of Nevada (CCCN). He participates in various basic, translational and clinical research studies, most recently focusing on circulating tumor cells by using the cells as the basis for personalized therapies against prostate and other cancers. Other ongoing projects center on understanding mechanisms that govern prostate cancer resistance to hormonal therapy.
Dr. Goodman conducts his translational research at Roseman University of Health Sciences, with colleagues on the Prostate Cancer Research team, part of the university’s Cancer Research Program. He serves as an Adjunct Professor at Roseman and Assistant Clinical Professor of Medicine at the University of Nevada School of Medicine. Prior to joining CCCN in 2012, Dr. Goodman worked as a medical oncologist at the UC San Diego Nevada Cancer Institute. Before moving to Las Vegas, Dr. Goodman worked as a Clinical Associate and later as a physician for the Department of Medicine, Division of Hematology/Oncology, at New York Presbyterian Hospital, Weill Cornell Campus, in New York City.
Read more about Dr. Goodman’s accomplishments here, and join us for this presentation and more at the 2016 Nevada Cancer Control Summit.
