Gloria Coronado, PhD

Objectives:

1. To gain understanding of how to implement a direct-mail FIT program in low resource clinics
2. To understand clinic-level and patient-level barriers to colon cancer screening

Gloria Coronado, PhD is an epidemiologist and the Mitch Greenlick Endowed Senior Investigator in Health Disparities at Kaiser Permanente Center for Health Research. She completed in training at Stanford University and the University of Washington. Dr. Coronado’s research has focused on understanding and addressing disparities in the occurrence and burden of disease in underserved populations, with a special emphasis on the Latino population in the Pacific Northwest. She co-directs the STOP CRC program, a program that uses system-based approaches to raise the rates of colorectal cancer screening in federally sponsored health centers in Washington, Oregon and California.

A Systems-Based Approach to Increasing Colorectal Cancer Screening in a Community Health Clinic
Jason Crawford, MD, MPH

Objectives:

1. To identify tactics essential to the success of a colon cancer screening system
2. To understand barriers and challenges in implementing and sustaining a colon cancer screening system
3. To understand the benefits of a colon cancer screening program for a clinician’s viewpoint

Dr. Crawford is a board-certified family physician and Chief Medical Officer for Community Health Alliance, a group of federally-qualified health centers serving the Reno/Sparks area. He also has a Masters in Public Health in community/global health. Dr. Crawford serves on the American Cancer Society’s Community Health Center Speaker’s Bureau, with the current primary goal of increasing colorectal cancer screening rates in the medically underserved and disenfranchised populations of the U.S. He has also served as assistant chair of the Colorectal, Breast, Cervical Cancer Medical Advisory Board of the State of Nevada.
