Parks & Recreation
Communities across the country are adding Sun Smart features to their parks and recreational facilities, including installing sunscreen dispensers and adding shade structures. It’s happening right here in Nevada, too!
It’s hard to visit a public park, pool or community center in Las Vegas without seeing a sunscreen dispenser provided by Comprehensive Cancer Centers of Nevada. They’re everywhere, giving community members extra tools to stay safe outdoors even if they forget their sunscreen from home. In northern Nevada, Reno and Sparks Parks and Recreation Departments have used city funds and partnership donations to place sunscreen dispensers at local pools and parks, as well.
There are plenty more opportunities to support Sun Smart parks and recreation opportunities. It takes time, supportive community officials, and funding to make it all happen though. The best way to increase access to Sun Smart parks and community recreation facilities is to engage with your local leaders, sponsor a sunscreen dispenser or shade structure, and reach out to Sun Smart Nevada for assistance.
